Hey guys! My name is Abby and I’m currently a senior in highschool at a small Christian school in Minnesota. Many of you are probably wondering how I landed on doing World Race with Adventures in Missions, and to tell the truth, I sometimes wonder the same thing…
I’ll tell the story of my life in Guatemala in another post, but in short, my family and I lived in “Guate” as missionaries for 3 years. We moved back to Minnesota after my sophomore year in highschool and I like to say that my faith grew rapidly in my junior year, and is continuing to do so in my senior year. Last year, after a lesson from my Bible teacher, I felt a very strong conviction that my purpose on earth was to share Jesus and to be a disciple maker.
Ministry has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, so this conviction of continuing to do ministry seemed to fit right into my life. At the beginning of this school year, I started exploring my options of what to do after I graduated highschool and missions is what I settled on- it was a desire that only the Lord could’ve placed in my heart. I looked at a few different programs but didn’t feel quite right about any of them. That’s when my mom re-introduced me to Adventures in Missions.
When we were preparing for moving to Guate, my parents heavily considered working at the AIM base in Guatemala but ended up not doing it because they couldn’t figure out how to send me and my brothers to school while working there full time.
So long story short, my Mom mentioned that AIM had a program called World Race for recent highschool graduates to do a year of missions. When I clicked on the website, I knew immediately it was what I wanted to do. I loved the challenge of living on little and sleeping in a tent, serving people with people my age, growing my own faith in the Lord while also watching others grow, and traveling to 4 different countries in 9 months! I prayed about it and felt like the Lord had purposefully put this opportunity right in front of my face, and was giving me the clear to apply…
and that’s the story of how I landed here. So, welcome to my world and stay tuned for many more posts 🙂
